List of New Cars Most Affected by Tariffs

As many of you are aware, Trump is imposing a 25% tariff on new vehicles and parts imported from Canada and Mexico starting March 4th. This is expected to increase new car prices by up to $17,000 on some affected models, so I wanted to take a look at which vehicles will be impacted the most and the additional cost you may have to pay if you want these models.

Automakers most exposed include Volkswagen, Nissan, Chrysler, Dodge, and GM. However, Trump offered a one month exemption for US automakers to give them time to move their factories and supply chain back to the US (one month isn't even close to enough time however).

Many vehicles produced in the US still include many parts that are imported from Canada and Mexico - making up about 30-40% of the vehicle cost, so the impact will still be felt even if the vehicle isn't directly imported.

The following is a list of all models that are currently imported directly from Canada or Mexico, including the potential increase in price we may see in the coming months. The US-based manufacturers are exempt until April 5th. If you were thinking of buying a new car, especially one of the models listed below, now may be a good time to get a deal before prices go up.

Note, Trump is known to constantly change directions, so there's no guarantee that we will actually see tariff based price increases, but it's definitely looking like a real possibility and the industry is preparing for it.
