Best New Car Features for 2013

One of the advantages to buying a new car is that you get to experience the latest technology, gadgets, and safety equipment. This week, Edmunds.com has compiled a list of the best new features available on the latest 2013 model year vehicles.

The list includes useful safety features such as blind spot cameras, back-up collision avoidance, and center console airbags. There are also some neat technology gadgets such as 17-inch center tablets and adjustable seat warmers.

1. Passenger-side Blind-spot Camera
This is a small camera mounted on the passenger side mirror that captures video of cars and bikes in your blind spot and projects the image onto the central dsiplay screen when you use your right turn signal.

2. Center side airbag for front occupants
This side airbag deploys from the inboard side of the driver seat and is meant to reduce injury in the event of a side-impact from the passenger side of the vehicle. The airbag also prevents the driver and passenger from knocking into each other during a collision.

3. Back-up collision intervention system
This system helps you avoid backing into other vehicles, pedestrians, or anything else that veers into your way while backing up. The system automatically applies the brakes if it senses an object in your path.

4. EZ Flex seating system
This feature adds a 60/40-split second-row seats in a three-row SUV. It allows passengers to get in and out of the 3rd row without having to remove a car seat that may be installed in the second row.

5. Tire pressure alert system
Vehicle honks the horn when the tire reaches the correct psi when adding air. It saves you the trouble of double-checking pressures with a handheld tire pressure gauge.

6. Safety Alert Seat
This features vibrates the driver's seat when it senses a danger. For example, if you wander over the white line, the seat vill vibrate on the right side.

7. Foot-operated, touchless liftgate
This is a touchless power liftgate that works by extending your foot under the vehicle's rear bumper. This allows you to open the trunk when your hands are full.

8. Tablet-style center stack control interface
This is a center stack touchscreen that is larger than an iPad and acts very similar to one.

This allows you to control the temperature of your seats. An auto mode sets the temperature according to however you've set the main climate control system.
